A Classical Minute: Dorothy Sayers and the Art of Learning

Published October 09, 2026
At PCA, we believe education is about teaching students how to think, not what to think. Dorothy Sayers reminds us in The Lost Tools of Learning, “For the sole true end of education is simply this: to teach men how to learn for themselves; and whatever instruction fails to do this is effort spent in vain.”

Our goal is to cultivate curious, thoughtful learners who ask questions, seek understanding, and develop the skills to think critically and learn independently. As we continue this work with our students, our teachers will also be reading and discussing The Lost Tools of Learning together, growing in our understanding of the principles that guide a classical education.
