The First Nine Weeks

Thank you parents, students, faculty, staff, and board members for participating in the first annual Fall Festival at Pinnacle Classical Academy.  Our building was booming with excitement, games, food, and family fun! We truly appreciate your continued support in all that we accomplish at PCA.

We are proud to say that all of our classrooms have SMART Boards at this time.  In addition to the SMART Boards, each classroom has four desktop computers, and each teacher has a laptop.  We are also in the process of purchasing Elmo devices (document readers) for each classroom.  Our PEAK organization has graciously taken on this task, and we only have a few more to purchase.

Our main curricula are being implemented successfully in our classrooms. The following is just a taste of what children have been learning during the first nine weeks. Several classes had celebrations while learning about various cultures. Our Kindergarten children learned the continents and enjoyed food from a “Continent Café.”  They also experimented with science, planted seeds, learned about the five senses and had a guest speaker. First graders created projects about various systems of the body and celebrated what they learned about Mexico with a culminating fiesta activity. Second graders have celebrated the Chinese New Year, Ancient Indian Civilizations, Tall Tales, and Fairy Tales. Parents brought authentic food, clothing and instruments to enrich the curriculum. Third graders completed a book report project on a book of their choice and presented it to the class. Fourth grade worked on Geocubes to apply the five themes of geography, studied the Feudal System, read Robin Hood (currently completing a diorama project), and are celebrating the end of the novel this week. Fifth grade students have completed a unit of poetry and studied the American Revolution. Sixth grade students completed a unit on the human ear and are submitting projects.

We still need your support, patience, and cooperation with our traffic plan.  Please abide by all traffic rules including filling in the correct lanes in the back parking lot and turning RIGHT only when exiting the school during morning and afternoon drop times. Also, do not park next door and have your child walk across the driveway to the school.  This is a dangerous practice, and all parents should park in the back if you want to walk your child in unless you arrive after 8:00 am, and then you must bring your child inside to sign-in at the front office.  Do not send children in by themselves when they are tardy. Parents are responsible for completing the tardy forms. I know with your help and positive attitudes, we can teach our children to follow kind and courteous examples of good citizenship and the importance of punctuality. 

Please visit our Student Code of Conduct regarding our Attendance/Tardy Policy – Rule Violation 1.  We have not enforced this policy during the first nine weeks since we needed to allow time for our morning traffic to move smoothly.  At this point in time, we will begin consequences according to our Code of Conduct for students who are tardy.  This will also be enforced for students who are being signed out early. The policy states this is a Level 2 consequence and students will have After-School Detention when they accumulate 4-7 times being tardy. Then, after 8 occurrences and each successive tardy afterwards, they will receive a day of out-of-school suspension for each occurrence.  All children need to be at school on time, and they need to stay for the entire day unless there is an emergency. 

Uniform Policy

Please be sure your child is dressed properly each day, and that they are wearing the approved items from the policy.  Students should have polo shirts tucked in and should be wearing a belt with all pants/shorts.  Hoodies must be taken off while students are in school so be sure your child has a polo shirt or other approved shirt on underneath the hoodie. Students should be wearing black coats/jackets to school. Students’ footwear consists of black or white shoes only.  Jewelry rubber type bands are not allowed.  Students have been wearing them and taking them on and off during the day and using them to shoot across the room/gym at one another.

Volunteering Opportunities

Teachers’ templates of the days/times in which they need regular assistance will be posted soon.  We are trying to coordinate an electronic procedure for signing up for specific spots on specific days for each teacher. With this process in place, teachers can print off a daily log of who is volunteering and at what time.  Then, they can be prepared for you, and they do not have to take time away from teaching our children.  Please adhere to their schedules for assistance in the classrooms.

We are also creating a template of facility needs for those parents who wish to help maintain our facility. This will be posted on the website soon. PEAK has several committees, and the chairs of those committees will be making contact for upcoming events in which parents can volunteer.  Watch the PEAK bulletin board (inside the front office) and website for upcoming opportunities to serve.

Another area in which you can volunteer is for Traffic Duty.  If you want to volunteer for this function, you would need to be available the entire time in the morning (7:15-8:00) or afternoon (2:20-3:20).  You will also need to complete a special volunteer form and be trained by a staff member for the position of duty. Those forms are available on the website under the Parent tab. The regular volunteer form is also there along with the guidelines for volunteers (Volunteer Code of Conduct). Please complete the Volunteer Code of Conduct and return to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

Upcoming Events – Mark your Calendars

November 4 – No School – Report Cards/Parent Conferences – 7:30-4:00 (teachers will be contacting all parents to schedule your meeting time – you will need to conference with your child’s teacher in order to receive the child’s report card). Actual report cards will be sent home on November 6th.

November 6 – Kindergarten Dental Screenings – Parent letters were sent last week

November 10 – Board Meeting 2:00

November 11 – Holiday – No School

November 27-29 – Holidays – Enjoy a time of Thanksgiving
