The Pinnacle Classical Academy Board of Directors joins me in recognizing our teachers and staff for their hard work and dedication to student academic success. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) recently released End-Of-Grade (EOG) testing and accountability reports for 2014-2015. EOG tests are taken by students in grades 3-8 in all public schools in North Carolina. The EOG tests are designed to provide a uniform measure of student achievement that can be used to compare schools across the state. The results show that Pinnacle Classical Academy (PCA) is producing exceptional student outcomes and academic performance on EOG tests.
Pinnacle Classical Academy, like all public charter schools in the state, is not part of the traditional local school district. Pinnacle Classical Academy receives roughly 73% of the funding allocated to traditional public schools, but has the freedom to use research- based and innovative curricula rather than that mandated by the state for traditional schools. The effect of the curricula on student achievement has been phenomenal. In the crucial academic areas of reading and math, Pinnacle Classical Academy’s composite score was 69.9% in only its second year of operation. In comparison the average composite score in grades 3-7 in North Carolina was 56.3%, and in surrounding Cleveland County it was 57.5%.
Pinnacle Classical Academy earned a school performance grade of “B” on the most recent School Report Card issued by the state of North Carolina.
At Pinnacle Classical Academy our educational philosophy is based on the three R’s – Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships. This means rigorous coursework, relevant learning activities, and meaningful relationships with teachers and other staff members at the school. These items are all necessary to ensure that every student is successful in school and prepared for life after graduation.
The heart of the PCA academic experience is based on the highly acclaimed Core Knowledge Curriculum coupled with the advanced Singapore Math program in grades K-8. Classic interdisciplinary courses including art, physical education, music, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) are requisite for K-5 students and foreign language is introduced for 6th-8th grade students. Pinnacle Classical Academy has the only dedicated STEM lab in the county. Students in the STEM course participate in hands-on application and experiential learning of advanced mathematic and science concepts.
Pinnacle Classical Academy gives parents a positive choice in their child’s education, and gives teachers and other school personnel a choice in where to practice their profession.
